Stephanie Harzewski examines such best sellers as Bridget Jones's Diary The Devil Postfeimnism Prada, and Sex and the City as urban appropriations of and departures from the narrative traditions of the novel of manners, the popular romance, and the bildungsroman. This was slow going, though this might be down to the fact that huge swaths of the book discuss Bridget Jones and Sex and the City, both of which I hated. This is an accessible yet academic work on where "chick lit" fits into modern literature.
